Kirk & Sweeney is a range of molasses rums offered by the company 3 Badge. Distilled in Santiago De Los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic, Kirk & Sweeney rums are named after a famous schooner known for its role in smuggling Caribbean rum to the United States during the Prohibition era. The heart of the range includes 3 Dominican rums (Kirk & Sweeney Reserva, Gran Reserva and Gran Reserva Superior), traditionally made from sugar cane juice, then aged in American white oak barrels. The expression Reserva, the youngest of the three, develops complex flavors of cane sugar, dried fruit, vanilla and toasted oak.
Rum is a sugarcane brandy traditionally coming from the Caribbean islands and South American countries, but there are also some varieties of it that are produced in countries of which it is not a typical alcohol. Depending on its origin, it is called « rum » in good French, « rum » in English-speaking countries or « ron » in Spanish. It can be made from molasses or syrup obtained during the manufacture of cane sugar or sugar cane juice which are then fermented, then distilled and more or less aged.
In the spirits department, there are different tasting rums: white rum, old rum (appellation contrôlée in France), amber rum, Martinique or Guadeloupe rum, Reunion rum and many others. Very aromatic, the rum is wonderful in cocktails: arranged rum, punch, planter, honey rum, Daiquiri, Mojito, Mai Tai. A rare and refined rum appearing in a good spirit cellar will however be best appreciated pure and possibly refreshed.
OLD DOMINICAN RHUM: Distilled in the Dominican Republic, Kirk & Sweeney Gran Reserva has a beautiful mahogany colour highlighted by its magnificent bottle with round and harmonious shapes.
A UNIQUE RECIPE: This Gran Reserva edition is a blend of rums aged in American oak barrels in the Dominican Republic between 5 and 20 years.
TASTING TIPS: This rum is best enjoyed pure, on ice or with a touch of sparkling water. It is recommended to use a less valuable rum for the preparation of an arranged rum, punch or planter.
RUM IN DETAIL: This old rum expresses flavors of vanielle sherry and grapes. The mouth follows the nose with notes of nutmeg and spices (cinnamon).
